Back in 2012, the generosity movement known as “Giving Tuesday” was created. Just like other celebrations, it has acquired a lot of visibility and many people now celebrate this day every year by donating money but not only. Whether it is by giving time, materials, clothes, or effort to people and communities in need, there are many ways to get involved during Giving Tuesday.
Moreover, it is not only an individual activity: local groups, non-profits and companies decided to get involved and organize things to give back to society and communities during Giving Tuesday. Now that is said, you’re probably wondering why you need to do it too. There are numerous reasons but we summed up everything with 3 reasons.
Let’s take a closer look at that.
As Giving Tuesday takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it motivates people to give, after they show gratitude for what they have. Indeed, the end-of-the-year season is already a period during which people feel more empathic, generous and open to give to the less lucky one of us.
Since people are in the giving spirit, organizing something for Giving Tuesday is a must-do. If we take into the account the fact that recently, all of us have been experiencing though situations (isolation, health problems, social distancing, endangered work situations, etc.), it is even more important to get involved and start doing something.
Giving Tuesday is a movement that is most often written with a hashtag, for its Social Media slant. The fact that the hashtag already exists and is well-known is a huge advantage for visibility and brand awareness.
It might be a bit weird to promote the fact that your company visibility can be increased thanks to a social impact movement but this doesn’t take anything from the good impact and generosity you’re showing at the end.
Plus, social media means reaching a lot more people and acquire potential donor data that you don’t know about yet. This is key for your upcoming corporate giving plans if you have one. And if not, you can always find inspiration or ask for some advices.
In 2012 all Giving Tuesday activities gathered $ 10million. It reached 2.47 billon $ in 2020. As it continues to reach, studies have shown that small donations increased over time and recurring donations are also on a roll. We’re not saying that you must absolutely ride the wave of Giving Tuesday, we’re just saying that it “works, it is indeed well-known, expected and already planned for a lot of local groups, non-profits and corporations, so what is keeping you from getting involved too?
